Catherine Lillian (Killin) Couper
1892-1947
Catherine Lillian (Killin) Couper
Daughter of James and Catherine (Pryde) Killin.
Wife of Roger Aytown Whyte Couper , of Toronto, Ontario
Born in Scotland in 1892. Died February 20th, 1947. Age 55 years.
Catherine (Lily) grew up with two sisters and four brothers; Jessie, Mary, William, Archie, John & Jimmy.
Catherine and Roger lived at 446 Roxton Road in Toronto before Roger died in 1919 of Myalgia and then Tuberculosis of the spine. Catherine would have had a very tough time as she would have seen Roger linger for over a year in hospitals and the deal with the news of many other family members being killed in action or taken by the influenza that killed over 55,000 in Canada at the same time.
Catherine would be a witness to the marriage of one of her two surviving male relatives (Brother Archie) to the widow of another of her brothers (John). You can see Catherine in the wedding photo of Jean (Dunlop) Killin and Archie Killin. Also in the photo is Catherine and Archie’s younger brother James/Jimmy.
Also attached is a photo post card, sent by Catherine’s mother to brother Archie who was wounded and at this point being treated in England before being shipped back to Canada. You can see Catherine on her mom’s left and what are probably her sister Jessie on the other side of her mom as well as two of the children on the steps being Jessie’s Catherine and Tom Neill.
Catherine would live to see the next generation of Killin boys (her brother Archie’s and Jean’s sons) leave for another war, but in this case all returning home.
